     HearthStone and its members are an important "voice" to the community in support of community integration, access to resources, and, above all, building respect for persons with disabilities.

     Hearthstone believes that the primary responsibility of an advocate is to educate. Our desire is to inspire people with disabilities and/or their family members to actively advocate for the opportunity to fully participate within their community and to improve policies, programs, and funding at local, county, state, and national levels. By sharing their dreams, concerns, and ambitions, it helps others to understand what must be done. Contrary to popular belief, the most powerful influence in changing the attitudes and issues that impact our lives is the voice of concerned advocates and constituents.

     What HearthStone can do to help you make a difference!

• Assist in correcting situations that restrict accessibility & inclusion in the community.
• Increase public awareness of disability issues by helping you tell your story through the media.
• Provide guidance and suggestions on how to develop relationships with legislators and policy-makers on issues that are currently impacting your life or that of a family member.
• Provide information regarding current legislation at the state and national level that could impact people with developmental disabilities.
• Help you to register and get to the polls to vote.
• Advise you of opportunities for public input into county and state budgets and assist with transportation and/or transcribing your input into written communication.
• Provide expert resources to contact on specific issues.

     Hearthstone is developing a network of individual advocates who are dramatically increasing their effectiveness by working together with community leaders, professionals, legislators, and caring friends and neighbors. The results are astounding. We welcome individuals from Sheboygan County and around the State to join us. Please!
